(AsiaGameHub) – The MGCB has announced the introduction of new resources for young people.
US.- The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has launched a campaign designed to protect young individuals from underage and problematic gambling practices. Titled Don’t Bet on Your Future, the initiative offers updated tools and support tailored for youth, educational institutions, and families.
A key component of the campaign is the High School Boosters Programme, which encourages booster clubs associated with schools to serve as primary advocates in preventing youth gambling. Eligible organisations can receive funding of up to $4,000 by distributing MGCB-endorsed messages about the dangers of underage gambling through their established communication platforms—such as digital advertisements, social media content, scoreboards, event programs, and school newsletters.
By leveraging coaches, athletic directors, and volunteer boosters, the MGCB aims to deliver prevention education in a manner that resonates authentically with teenagers. A new television commercial has been produced to reinforce the message that gambling before the legal age is prohibited by law.
This summer, the MGCB will open applications for the Gambling Education and Prevention (GAP) Grant Program.
Henry Williams, executive director of the MGCB, stated: “Research from the National Council on Problem Gambling indicates that nearly two-thirds of adults in the United States have engaged in gambling before turning 21—a trend that also affects Michigan’s youth. Don’t Bet on Your Future seeks to establish a unified statewide network focused on awareness and prevention, involving schools, coaches, parents, and local communities. We are dedicated to ensuring future generations recognize the serious risks associated with gambling prior to any attempt to place a bet.”
Free access to gambling blocking software
The MGCB recently finalized an agreement providing state residents with complimentary access to Gamban, a comprehensive gambling restriction application. Gamban effectively blocks all forms of online gambling, irrespective of regulatory standing—including unlicensed operators, virtual casinos, cryptocurrency-based gaming platforms, and wagering activities linked to NFTs—extending its protection beyond regulated venues to include black market and unregulated sites.
Residents may obtain a free license valid for one to five years, with no prerequisite enrollment in a self-exclusion program required. However, individuals already registered in the Responsible Gaming Database or the Disassociated Persons List are particularly encouraged to utilize this additional safeguard.
